Speaking to Kai Mejor,
Chairman of the Polio Victims Association in Kono
Kai Menjor, the Chairman of the Polio Victims Association in Kono visits the Koidu Kimberlite Project offices every Monday to collect their weekly allowance. In one such visit, Ibrahim Kamara caught up with him as he was been wheeled to the gate. In a brief chat along the way, Mr Menjor revealed how Koidu Holdings has given those suffering from polio a life line:
'After the war, we were sent to Kono by NacSa in 2003 under the aegis of World Vision. In the few months following our arrival in Kono, World Vision stopped supporting us. By 2004, our number has risen to 65, and with things getting worse by the hour, our chairman at the time, the late Tamba Mondeh wrote a letter to Koidu Holdings requesting assistance. We were invited by the Company for a meeting after which, the Company decided it was going to provide us with 4 bags of rice and the sum of 100 Leones for our feeding on a weekly basis. Since the company stepped in, we have been doing well with our families. Every day we pray for this company to grow from strength to strength because we know our survival depends on it. We are truly grateful for what it is doing for us.'
