Head of Department - Safety, Health and Environment

A Head of Department for the on-site Safety, Health and Environmental Management Department is required. This position will be based on site at the Koidu Kimberlite Project, be part of the mine’s management team and report directly to the Mine Manager. The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years’ experience as a Safety, Health and Environmental Professional in a mining environment, of which at least 3 years in a managerial role. A tertiary qualification in this field will be highly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects pertaining to site Safety, Health and Environment, including but not limited to the following:

  • Development of an appropriate Safety, Health and Environmental Management Plan
  • Implementation and management of an appropriate Safety, Health and Environmental Management System
  • Manage and direct the Safety, Health and Environmental sections on site
  • Provide direction and assurance in terms of Mine Safety to the Company’s Management and Executive Committees
  • Effective resource and cost control
  • Development and generation of periodic management information reports
  • Continuously improve safety, cost and efficiency practices

HME Technician

An HME Technician is required in the Engineering Department. The technician will be required to maintain electronic systems of Heavy Mining Equipment and Power station Gensets in accordance with prescribed standards in order to attain optimum equipment availability and reliability. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years’ experience working on Heavy Mining Equipment preferably Volvo or Caterpillar Equipment and hold a recognised 3 year Electrical/Electronic Engineering Diploma. The successful candidate will be required to do the following:

  • Conduct preventive and reactive maintenance chores on Heavy Mining Equipment and power station generation sets.
  • Analyse and interpret engineering breakdowns and implement plans to address shortcomings.
  • Conduct job planning for routine and non-routine tasks.
  • Assist management with proactive management of spares.
  • Manage execution of maintenance in the area of responsibility, in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Liaise with relevant maintenance planners and management to ensure optimum equipment availability.
  • Ensure quality of all maintenance, installation and repair work meets or exceeds prescribed quality standards.
  • Adhere to established safety, health and environmental standards.
  • Assist with development of local artisans by actively transferring/impacting technical skills.
  • You will from time to time be required to attend to additional duties, which subject to the reasonableness thereof, you agree to carry out.

Technicians

Six Technicians are required in the Metallurgy department. The technicians will be required to maintain and operate instrumentation components in the processing plant. The ideal candidates should hold a diploma/degree/undergraduate qualification in instrumentation or light current. They must have experience in working with plant instruments (weightometers, level transmitters, density controllers, FlowSort X-Ray machines) and low tension electrical experience. The main duties and responsibilities of the successful candidates will entail maintaining the instrumentation on the plant (preventative and breakdown), operating the recovering plant and conducting fault finding on instrumentation components.

Electricians

Two Electricians are required in the Metallurgy department. The electricians will be required to maintain and operate electrical components in the process plant. The ideal candidates should hold a diploma/degree/undergraduate qualification in Electrical Engineering. The candidate should have experience in working in the processing plant/heavy industry, high tension electrical experience, and have experience with PLCs and soft starters. The successful candidates will be required to maintain the plant’s electrical equipment and conduct fault-finding on electrical components.

Training Officer

A Training Officer is required in the Metallurgy department. The training officer will be required to provide plant training to plant personnel. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of six years experience of working in a diamond processing plant with the relevant qualification. The successful candidate will assist the senior training officer in executing the training programme, conducting assessments and improving the training programme.

Final Recovery Shift Boss

A Final Recovery Shift Boss is required in the Metallurgy department. The Final Recovery Shift Boss will be required to look after the operation of the Final Recovery and the SortHouse. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of six years experience of working in a diamond processing plant, experience in SortHouse/Recovery, Microsoft Office and must be trustworthy and detail-orientated. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of Recovery and the SortHouse and will be expected to compile daily and monthly reports.
